Loretta Lynn needs your prayers once again.
The 85-year-old country legend fell last week and broke her hip, according to a Jan. 8 Twitter post from her sister, Crystal Gayle. She asks everyone to send love and prayers to Loretta at this time.
Crystal writes, “I was with Loretta yesterday. She is in good spirits and is doing as well as can be expected with this type of injury. Thank you for your love, prayers and continued support!”
She goes on to write, “Love you, Sis!”
A post on Loretta’s Twitter account confirms the news saying, “American music icon Loretta Lynn is recovering from a fractured hip after a fall while at home. She is doing well and thanks all her fans for their thoughts and prayers.”
The broken hip is just the latest medical setback for Loretta. Last May, she suffered a stroke that forced her to cancel most of her concert appearances. Since then, she has made a few limited appearances, including a stop at the Country Music Hall of Fame’s annual Medallion Ceremony to induct Alan Jackson.
During that appearance, Loretta was unable to walk without assistance, but she did crack a few jokes and tell some stories about what Alan’s music meant to her.
She told him, “This is the first time I’ve been out of the house. You’re the only thing that could have brought me here. I love you, honey, and I want to say, ‘Congratulations.’ I am so proud of you. Hey, you should be here” in the Hall of Fame.
Loretta also shared the story of her first conversation with Alan after hearing him perform a few songs.
She recalled, “The first time I ever met Alan and seen Alan, he looked like a scared little boy. He was practicing backstage going through his songs. I remember, I looked at him and I said, ‘You’re gonna be one of the greatest singers in country music.’ He hasn’t let me down.”
Loretta has also been keeping up her singing, as you can see from these pictures from Sept. 2017. Her band, The Coal Miners, stopped by for some “pickin’ and grinnin.’”
