“I’ll be damned if I’m going to let anyone scare me,” Jason Aldean triumphantly told a New Orleans crowd on Oct. 26 as he performed his first outdoor concert since the Las Vegas mass shooting on Oct. 1 that killed 58 people. That shooting spree terrifyingly began while Jason was onstage at a country music festival.
“It’s been a crazy few weeks,” Jason said during the New Orleans show, according to NOLA.com. “The craziest thing,” he added, is that playing music “is where we’re the most comfortable.”
But the very next night, an Aldean concert in Tupelo, Mississippi, was the setting for yet another act of violence when shots rang out in the venue parking lot, injuring one person.
According to various reports, 22-year-old Steven Michael Hulbert faces aggravated assault charges and is currently being held in jail after firing multiple shots at a man and striking him with a bullet in the chest outside the BancorpSouth Arena at around 11:13 p.m., shortly after Jason’s Oct. 27 show at the venue. Other gunshots were said to have hit various cars in the parking lot.
While the situation was quickly controlled thanks to police, fans in the arena were told to stay inside until it was safe to leave, something that had to make country music fans uneasy as they continue to mourn those affected by the Las Vegas tragedy.
