If it’s been said once, it has been said a thousand times before — everyone you meet is fighting some kind of a battle you know nothing about. But sometimes, someone opens up about their personal battles and, in turn, gives other people the confidence to continue fighting their own.

Rising country star Michael Ray did just that.

“In the last four or five months … I was going through a lot of stuff personally, a lot of stuff, changes professionally, and just a lot of things at one time,” the Florida native said. “My family is very close, but when you’re a guy, especially a guy from the south, I feel like you really don’t talk too much about things you just kinda hold it all in, you know? And I thought that’s what you did. And so about six or seven months ago it really hit me hard and I was just, I couldn’t sleep, just my mind was racing all the time. I was really good at putting on the front, but then I’d wake up immediately and just feel, like, this pressure in my chest and constantly my mind just couldn’t shut off, and so I was like, ‘This isn’t how you live … I have to be going through something.’ ”

Michael went on to discuss working with a counselor in Nashville, and eventually realizing that anxiety had taken hold of him, like it has so many others, and that it can lead to depression. That’s when he decided to speak out in the hope of possibly helping someone else.

“If I don’t know what I was going through, I’m sure there’s something else out that there maybe don’t know it either,” he explained. “And maybe if I go ‘Hey, I’m going through these symptoms,’ somebody can go ‘I’m going through the same thing’ and they can get some help.”

We wish all the best to Michael through this trying time.
