Scotty McCreery was going through the TSA line at his hometown airport in Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina, on July 13 when the x-ray machines detected a loaded handgun and ammunition in his backpack. According to ABC TV affiliate WTVD, Scotty told police he had been to the shooting range a few days prior to his scheduled flight and forgot to take the weapon, a 9mm Smith & Wesson, out of his backpack before heading to the airport.
In a statement provided to Rare Country, Scotty explains that he has been a concealed carry permit holder ever since he was robbed at gunpoint back in 2014.
He continues, “While in between tour dates last week, I went to go target shooting with a friend a few days before an early flight out of my hometown Raleigh-Durham airport. Unfortunately, I did not realize that I left my pistol in my backpack until the TSA found it during the security x-ray screening and rightfully confiscated it.”
Scotty goes on to say he had his concealed carry permit with him, so he was released to catch the next flight once everything checked out.
